Matrix and stacked 2D codes: Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec, Micro QR, MaxiCode and more.
Data Matrix
What is Data Matrix?2D Codes › Data Matrix
2D barcodes store data in a grid or in stacked rows, so they hold far more than a linear barcode in less space. They have built-in error correction, so a scratched or partly covered code can often still be read. You need a 2D imaging scanner or a scanner app to read them.
Choose Data Matrix for small parts and labels, PDF417 for IDs and documents with lots of text, and Aztec Code for tickets shown on phone screens. Micro QR and rectangular Micro QR suit very small or narrow spots. For niche types such as MaxiCode or DotCode, follow the rules of the system that reads them.
