What is a UPC-E barcode?
UPC-E is a short, zero-suppressed form of UPC-A for small packages such as cans or small bottles sold in the US and Canada. It shows 8 digits but stands for a full 12-digit UPC-A number.
The scanner turns a UPC-E back into the UPC-A by putting the removed zeros back. Only UPC-A numbers with enough zeros in the right places can be compressed. The check digit is the one of the full UPC-A number.
What data can UPC-E hold?
7 digits starting with 0 or 1 (the number system), plus a check digit we add for you; 6 digits are treated as number system 0. If you paste an 11- or 12-digit UPC-A, we compress it when that is possible.
Recommended size
At 100% size a UPC-E is about 22.11 x 25.91 mm with an X-dimension of 0.33 mm, and it can be scaled from 80% to 200%. Keep a blank margin of 9 times the narrowest bar on the left and 7 times on the right.
