What is a Code-128 barcode?
Code 128 is a compact linear barcode that can hold letters, digits and punctuation. Warehouses, shipping companies, factories and shops use it for item numbers, serial numbers, order IDs and internal labels. If you are not sure which barcode to use for your own system, Code 128 is usually a safe choice.
It has three character sets, and set C packs two digits into each symbol, so long numbers stay short. Every Code 128 barcode ends with a modulo 103 check character that scanners use to catch misreads. Our generator adds it automatically, and it is not shown in the text under the bars.
What data can Code-128 hold?
Any standard ASCII character: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, space and common punctuation. Accented letters and emoji are not supported, the check character is calculated for you, and we warn you if a value is longer than 80 characters.
Recommended size
Leave a blank quiet zone of at least 10 times the narrowest bar (the X-dimension) on both sides. An X-dimension of about 0.25 mm to 0.5 mm suits most labels; test-print one before a big run.
