What is a Data Matrix Rectangular Extension (DMRE) barcode?
Data Matrix Rectangular Extension, or DMRE, adds more rectangular sizes to Data Matrix ECC 200. It is standardized in ISO/IEC 21471. The extra sizes let a Data Matrix fit very narrow, long areas or hold more data in a rectangle than the original rectangular sizes allow.
DMRE is used where space is a thin strip, such as along a label edge or on small packaging. Because it is newer, not every scanner supports it yet. Check that your scanners can read DMRE, or stay with standard rectangular Data Matrix if you can't control the reading equipment.
What data can Data Matrix Rectangular Extension (DMRE) hold?
Short text, numbers or IDs, up to 160 characters depending on content. We warn you as you get close to the limit.
Recommended size
Keep a quiet zone of at least one module on every side. Make modules large enough for your printer and scanner, and test reading before printing in bulk.
