What is a GS1 DataBar Expanded Composite barcode?
Unlike the other DataBar composites, the linear part here is DataBar Expanded, which already carries several Application Identifiers, such as a GTIN with a weight or price. The 2D Composite Component adds more AIs on top, for example internal company data or a batch.
This lets the checkout-relevant data, such as GTIN and weight, stay in the omnidirectional DataBar Expanded part, while extra data that only some systems need goes in the 2D block. If the single-row symbol is too wide, use DataBar Expanded Stacked Composite.
What data can GS1 DataBar Expanded Composite hold?
GS1 Application Identifiers for the DataBar Expanded part, then a | character, then more GS1 Application Identifiers for the 2D part, for example (01)93712345678904(3103)001234|(91)1A2B3C4D5E.
Recommended size
Size the DataBar Expanded part for checkout scanning and leave room above for the 2D block. The width grows with the linear data, so keep that part to what the checkout needs.
