What is a KIX (PostNL) barcode?

KIX (Klant Index) is the 4-state postal barcode used by PostNL in the Netherlands. It encodes the postcode, house number and house number suffix, usually with X separating the number and suffix, for example 1231FZ13XHS.

KIX uses the same kind of bars as the UK RM4SCC, but it has no check character and no start or stop bars. It is used on business mail to speed up automated sorting.

Follow PostNL's guidelines for building KIX data and placing it on the item. The generator encodes the characters you enter and does not validate the address.

What data can KIX (PostNL) hold?

Uppercase letters A-Z and digits 0-9, for example 1231FZ13XHS. Lowercase input can be converted for you.

Recommended size

Print at the dimensions PostNL specifies and keep a clear area around the barcode, usually near the address block.
