What is a Code 32 (Italian Pharmacode) barcode?
Code 32, also called the Italian Pharmacode, encodes the 9-digit number used to identify pharmaceutical products in Italy, often called the Minsan or AIC code. It appears on medicine packs so Italian pharmacies can scan them.
The 9 digits (8 data digits and a check digit) are converted to a base-32 value and printed as a Code 39 barcode. The human-readable text conventionally shows the number with a leading A.
You only need Code 32 for products sold through the Italian pharmacy channel. The product number itself is assigned through the Italian authorities; this tool only draws the barcode for a number you already have.
What data can Code 32 (Italian Pharmacode) hold?
Digits only: the 8-digit product number, or all 9 digits including the check digit. Spaces are ignored.
Recommended size
Code 32 is printed as Code 39, so leave a quiet zone of at least 10 times the narrowest bar on each side. Check the pack artwork requirements of your distributor and test-scan the result.
