What is a Price Tag with Product Code barcode?
Shops that sell their own products, such as bakeries, butchers and delis, often need barcodes that work only in their store. GS1 reserves EAN-13 numbers starting with 20 to 29 for this restricted circulation use, so they never clash with manufacturers' product codes.
Inside your store the meaning is up to you or your point-of-sale system. A common scheme for variable-weight goods holds an item number and a price or weight, but the exact layout depends on your country and POS vendor.
Codes starting with 20-29 are not unique outside your store, so don't use them on products you sell through other retailers. For those you need GTINs from GS1.
What data can Price Tag with Product Code hold?
12 digits, and we add the 13th check digit; or 13 digits, and we verify it. Use a 20-29 prefix for in-store codes; spaces and hyphens are ignored.
Recommended size
Keep the EAN-13 close to its nominal size and don't cut bar height too much, as checkout scanners need it. Leave the light margins on both sides, especially on small shelf tags.
