What is a PosiCode barcode?
PosiCode is a linear barcode designed for situations where bar widths are hard to control, such as direct marking on parts. It was developed for industrial use and is related in purpose to BC412.
The symbology defines its data by the positions of bars rather than by their exact widths, which helps marking methods that tend to make bars spread or shrink. It supports ASCII data and includes a built-in check, so you only need to enter the data.
PosiCode is uncommon and supported by few scanners. Use it only when a marking specification calls for it; for most labels Code 128 is better, and Data Matrix is the standard choice for direct part marking.
What data can PosiCode hold?
ASCII characters, including letters, digits, punctuation and spaces. Non-ASCII characters such as accented letters are not allowed.
Recommended size
Keep a quiet zone of at least 10 times the narrowest bar on each side, and test samples with the reader used in your process, since support varies.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is aimed at industrial marking where printing exact bar widths is difficult. Because it is rare, it is usually chosen only when a specification requires it.
Both were designed for marking processes with poor width control. BC412 is standardized by SEMI for wafers and holds uppercase letters and digits, while PosiCode accepts ASCII data.
For printed labels, use Code 128. For marking parts directly, Data Matrix is the widely supported standard.
