What is a COOP 2 of 5 barcode?

COOP 2 of 5 is a numeric member of the 2 of 5 barcode family. It is named after the cooperative retail sector, where it was used in older internal systems, and it is rarely seen on new labels today.

Like other 2 of 5 codes, it encodes digits only, using patterns in which two of five elements are wide. It differs from Standard, Industrial, Matrix and IATA 2 of 5 in its character and start/stop patterns, so scanners treat it as a separate symbology that is often turned off by default.

Because support is limited, use COOP 2 of 5 only to reproduce labels for an existing system that requires it. For anything new, Code 128 or Interleaved 2 of 5 is a much safer choice.

What data can COOP 2 of 5 hold?

Digits 0-9 only, any length. Spaces are removed. An optional modulo 10 check digit can be added.

Recommended size

Keep a quiet zone of at least 10 times the narrowest bar on each side. Print a test label and confirm your scanner reads it before producing a large batch.
