What is a Aztec Code barcode?

Aztec Code is a square 2D barcode with a bull’s-eye pattern in the center. It is popular on train and transit tickets, mobile boarding passes and event tickets, because it reads well from phone screens. It can hold text, numbers, URLs or binary data.

Scanners find the code by its bull’s-eye, so it needs no blank margin around it. Layers of data wrap around the center, from 15 x 15 modules for the smallest code up to 151 x 151 modules. It holds up to 3,832 digits, 3,067 letters or 1,914 bytes, with Reed-Solomon error correction.

What data can Aztec Code hold?

Any text, numbers or URL, up to 1,914 bytes. We warn you as you get close to the limit.

Recommended size

Aztec Code needs no quiet zone, but a small margin still helps when it sits next to other print. Make the modules large enough for your scanner, especially on phone screens and thermal tickets.
