What is a SSCC-18 barcode?
The SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) is an 18-digit number that identifies one logistic unit, such as a pallet or a parcel, for its whole journey. It is printed on GS1 logistic labels and scanned at dispatch, at receiving and in warehouses. Many retailers and logistics providers require it on incoming pallets.
The barcode is a GS1-128 with Application Identifier (00). The 18 digits are an extension digit, your GS1 company prefix, a serial reference and a check digit. Each SSCC must be unique, so you number your pallets in sequence.
What data can SSCC-18 hold?
17 digits, and we add the 18th check digit; or all 18 digits, and we verify it. The (00) is added for you, and spaces and hyphens are ignored.
Recommended size
SSCC barcodes follow GS1-128 logistics rules: an X-dimension of at least 0.495 mm, bars about 32 mm tall and a quiet zone of 10 times the narrowest bar. They usually sit on A6 (105 x 148 mm) or 4 x 6 inch labels.
